Propaganda Kimono

A beautiful boy's robe showing the Kamikaze over London's Tower Bridge in 1937. Sekai shinkiroku = New World Record. Red lantern = Congratulations. White lantern = Banzai.

Emperor Hirohito sent his brother, Prince Chichibu and his wife to represent Japan at the coronation of King George VI. They left Yokohama for the USA by boat on December 7, crossed North America on the Trans Canadian Railway, and then boarded the Queen Mary on March 18, 1937 in New York for the Atlantic leg to London. Upon learning that the Prince and Princess were in New York, the Kamikaze's two pilots left London to fly over the Queen Mary as it departed New York, with the Chichibus waving from the deck.
