Propaganda Kimono

Italy's condemation by the League of Nations in 1935 for invading Ethiopia and Somaliland (now Somalia) parallelled the similar chastisement of Japan in 1932 after their occupation of Manchuria. The Italian action was thus publicly promoted by the Japanese in their repudiation of western interference in Manchukuo, resulting in a number of these "Italy in Ethiopia" fabrics.

Besides the historical significance of this piece, the graphic design is among the most sophisticated of any, including maps, silhouettes, photographic images, drawings, and flags. The Italian flag retained the cruciform emblem until 1945.
