Life-sized drawing of the skeleton of a Morse, French for Walrus
Identified in Latin as trichechus rosmarus, the modern designation for the animal is odobenus rosmarus. A view of a mounted specimen drawn in a style distinct to France at the beginning of the nineteenth century, this remarkable object was likely to have been created in the halls of the first museum of natural history in Paris.
